I just returned from Denver, CO and I wanted to write about the world of trademark and copywrite law in general, which is a very interesting topic for me overall. In relevent news related to this topic, International House of Pancakes files trademark infringement suit against the Kansas City church
One would think the International House of Pancakes and a Kansas City prayer center would make for a good relationship. Apparently, for their part the International House of Pancakes thinks the said International House of Prayers is taking advantage of its decades-old household name. As an aside if you are in need of a top notch and dependable Denver trademark attorney who can handle business contract probate law, corporate, trademark, copywrite, internet and domain name law then I can suggest Larsen Law. In addition, they can handle various internet business issues in the Highlands Ranch as well as the aforementioned trademark and/or copywrite issues in general in Denver and is also a Centennial employment attorney.
All in all, the International House of Pancakes has filed a suit against the International House of Prayer contending trademark violation. The pancake purveyor wants the church to stop using “IHOP” and any related phrases. It also wants the court to award the church’s website domain, ihop.org to the company.
The church, located in Kansas City, has not replied to the charges as yet, saying the claims of infringement made by the Glendale, Ca., based pancake company were under review.
For their part, The International House of Pancakes states that the “IHOP” acronym has been used by the restaurant chain for thirty-seven years or so, give or take. I have noticed that these type od copywrite and trademark related litigation type of issues have loomed large as of late, especially in the greater Washingon DC area.
